A leading International Development Agency

Fail

The Problem

The objective of this project was to conduct a study/market scan on public and private Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD) service providers for grey and blue collars in Egypt, mainly in Greater Cairo, Alexandria, and the Suez Canal cities to identify top service providers and the existing market gaps. The study aimed to help a leading international development agency decide on which service providers to support in order to fill the gaps in the market.

Approach

The Approach

During this study, the consulting team helped identify the already existing public and private HRMD service providers in order to know who is out there, what areas are being tackled, which HRDM services need to be further or newly developed, and which service providers could potentially commit and are in need of the project’s support.

The study used a mix of desk research and primary research.  In the desk research phase, the consulting team reverted to online databases and reports in order to scan the market of human resource management and development companies and entities in Egypt.

In the  next phase, the team ran an online (and at times over the phone or in person) surveys  and roundtables with  HR managers of 50 companies across Cairo, Alex, and the Suez Canal Zone in order to get an understanding of: which HR service providers they utilize;  which services are most in demand and  which service gaps exist; and what reservations the HR managers may have on the quality and  modality of services provided. Services here extend to cover HR advisory, training and people assessment; all of which would have a blue (or grey) collar focus.

The consulting team then used the data captured in the previous stages in order to identify the best service providers across the three geographies. The top service providers were interviewed to get a better understanding of their shortcomings as well as the potential interventions they would need to improve their service offering quality and expand their portfolio.

The Results

The exercise enabled the consulting team to recommend service providers for the client as potential beneficiaries.
